Welcome back to the September edition of the CCIE Flyer. The Flyer started out 4 months ago as a simple email communication sent out to a few hundred of the members of my professional network. The readership has grown with the August issue being read by to over 4,000 and the distribution of the September issue to over 10,000!
This month we are featuring Learning as our main topic. We have a lot of learning to do every day and as IT professionals go once you stop learning you might get left behind. In regard to CCIEs and future CCIEs learning can impact your career and your wallet. But learning does not start when we enter our IT careers anymore, you must have a foundation to build on. Cisco has a program called IT Rocks which will be growing in popularity for middle school and younger students. I am just beginning my experience with sponsoring two schools in NYC where IT will be presented as a career option for the students. The idea is that exposure to IT as a tool for learning will influence more kids to select a career in IT. Dr. Robert Demming is an educator in Manhattan. I have seen his preparations for using PCs, audio and video clips along with very popular robotics projects in the classroom. Kids learning to use IT for learning at the grade school level. I am happy to feature a few lines from him on the subject in this issue. We are also featuring an article from Dorota Klos of Connaught in London on the One Laptop Per Child program. This is a fantastic endeavor worth your support. Read and learn about how this movement is working to ensure technology is in the hands of the kids who will influence our future. As always my “Career Diva” Eve is back with an interesting perspective on retooling the work force. Her article is an eye opener and reveals some information about China and India workforce training.
So you are thinking about laying out your hard earned money for a CCIE training course. I had intended to report on several of the companies I have been speaking with. I have only had time so far with ipexpert and Voice Bootcamp. The way we like to be taught or the way we learn influences our decisions when selecting a method to be taught. Although I am not finished making the rounds yet what I have experienced so far is in this issue as I gather more data on these companies I will share and eventually compile my opinion on who would best benefit from each company’s style. I have also asked three very influential instructors to tell us what they see as must haves for day-one in their classes. Vik Malhi, Scott Morris and Faisal Khan share their views on what a student in one of their classes needs to do to be prepared for day-one.
Terry Slattery CCIE # 1026 and I had lunch two weeks ago near Baltimore and we are planning the next CCIE Mixer for the DC area. He has some thoughts on the CCIE written test questions he is sharing in this edition of the CCIE Flyer. “Work Work Work” in this issue we have a PHD Professor from New England advising parents on getting their money back for a bad education. Read and enjoy and if you would like to go on a rant in this piece send me your idea and maybe we can get you in on the October edition.
Enjoy and if you have suggestions for future topics please let me know.
We love feedback and I LOVE MY JOB!!!
