WELCOME TO THE JULY 2010 ISSUE OF THE CCIE FLYER!
If you didn't make it to CiscoLive 2010, you should also consider going next year. It is valuable to meet your peers and folks like Eman. The show floor is excellent, with products that are of interest to networking focused people. I'm always finding something useful in the trade show or making a good business contact. The free beer and food is good too! ;-)
CCIE Flyer Welcome by Terry Slattery...

CCIE Agent JOBS:

THE ULTIMATE CONSULTANCY
Top Gun CCIEs
The Top Gun Program was Cisco’s first effort to identify the best in-class network engineers who had mastered the technology’s application and stabilization. Early heroes in this effort are still found today making the world a better place for CCIEs and web 2.0 explorers. The CCIE program has come a long way since those early days back in the 1990s. The CCIE program has singlehandedly brought the world some of the best and brightest of the networking industry. Today there are still fewer than 21,000 CCIEs in the world but demand for their services has never been greater.

TOPGUN CCIEs
Top Gun CCIEs is an alliance of the industry’s best network engineers who have been interviewed and vetted by Top Gun’s technical management. Jerzy Sliwinski, Narbik Kocharians and Emmanuel Conde Top Gun’s management have utilized these CCIEs on projects in the past, work with or have done rigorous technical screening to ensure these are among the best in the business. Instead of trusting your network to unknown resources we invite you to look at those selected to be represented by Top Gun CCIEs. Visit the Top Gun CCIEs website...
To enquire about resources for a project or to join us send an email to eman@ccieflyer.com.

Ok Ok I heard you already, I needed to post more of my jobs so everyone can see them. I started a group on LinkedIn called CCIE Jobs, I created a website called www.cciejobs.com and on Face Book I have created www.cciejobs.com which links to my Twitter account. Whew, I need a break here! With blogs and Tweets and inMails and Emails and the eMagazine what’s a tired CCIE Agent™ supposed to do? My wife hears me whine and she says for me to work more. What? Typical Jamaican woman’s point of view if I ever heard one. She’s one to talk heck she just has to look at my “Honeydew list” to see I’ve been kicking butt.

So yes this is my simple way of inviting you to go look at the postings wherever and get back to me. Your career should be in the hands of a caring professional like me!

CCIE Flyer Training Deals, CCIE Boot Camps for 2010!
I am supporting the cause for lower cost CCIE Boot Camps again in 2010 with reoccurring venues in India and Nigeria featuring R&S, Security, SP and Voice curriculums. There are several companies that have approached me and asked for my help in advertising and supporting these venues. We are looking at the very successful offerings from Narbik and his company Micronics as the foundation for these venues.

CCIE Boot Camps in Wilmington Delaware
Wilmington, Delaware a place CCIE Boot Camps seem to ignore. Yet here along Interstate 95 between Washington, DC and NYC is a place I call home. The home of tax free shopping and the city where many financial institutions are located Wilmington. Amtrak serves this city nicely with regular service hourly from destinations like Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston, NYC, Washington DC, the Carolinas and Virginias. The Philadelphia International Airport is 20 minutes away and the rail line runs right through it as well. If that’s not enough to entice folks who want to be CCIEs then maybe when priced at $2000.00 (R&S) as well as premier residences for $70 a night will. Here in Wilmington we will be hosting the first US CCIE Expo

CCIE Boot Camps in Dhaka Bangladesh
Along the banks of the Buriganga River Dhaka is a bustling hive of technology and business in Bangladesh. Described as a MegaCity it is one of the major cities of South Asia. Dhaka is the location of the CCIE Flyer’s first Asian CCIE Expo. On October 25th – 29th 2010 the Fantastic Four of CCIE training will arrive in Bangladesh brining three simultaneous CCIE boot camp tracks for the first Asian CCIE Expo. For more information...

How to register
Simply send an email to promotions@ccieflyer.com and we can get you into these bootcamps at a big discount.

Inspire Awe - My Date with Terry Slattery
The days leading up to the CCIE Party were a jumble of emails and discussions about how I would get into the blessed event. Thankfully I have a few friends at Cisco who were certain that having the CCIE Agent there was a good thing, but dealing with the decision makers has its own twists and turns. So I had to decide on which contingency plan might be needed, would I use the fire escape or rappel from a helicopter? Would the CCIE Agent be able to influence one of the CCIEs into turning over their pass for a bribe? Could I rent a jet pack? Maybe dressed as a waiter I could use the employee entrance! Would I have to cry in front of the Certification Lounge until one of the Cisco Live organizers took pity on me? As it turned out, .....

Beware the Contract that Bites!
It has been a while since I was involved in discovering some restrictive covenants which were a part of the nightmare that turned into the CCIE Hostage situation I helped resolve back in 2008. In that situation, the two CCIEs had been hired and relocated to Dubai by a channel partner who almost immediately put them on unpaid leave. This pair of CCIEs had a contract that prevented them from working for any competitor in the country, as a clause to release their CCIE numbers. I wrote at that time that this was not unusual in the UAE for a lot of technical and professional roles.
Well HELLO, it also happens here in the good old USA.

I'm Working Here
I must confess that, yes, I am a recruiter. Maybe it’s not what I lead in with, because I do a lot of other stuff as well, but it’s true. I am a recruiter. The CCIE Agent™ is my way of telling you that I am not driven by placements, but by helping as a career agent. Helping the CCIE is the key here, because of the population of them I can work as a supply-sided resource for talent with my clients. Looking at the population numbers I think it is important to remember that there are less than 21,000 CCIEs, all tracks combined there are still less than 21,000. The numbers are not being published anymore these days which is disappointing to me because I think the number of CCIEs is an incentive to care for them properly and to compensate them accordingly. But het, I don’t make the rules I just connect CCIEs with hiring mangers. So if you hear me say:

WHEN PLANNING YOUR CAREER GOALS, THINK IN REVERSE
My next door neighbors had a graduation party for one of their daughters. I was especially pleased to be invited because my wife and I enjoy their company. I always enjoy speaking with the patriarch of their family Grandpa Grunewal. The Wisdom of Grandpa Grunenwal...

Cisco Live 2010
I thought I'd be able to keep up with this on a daily basis, but I was wrong. So here's a recap of the bulk of the conference. Cisco Live 2010

Cisco Live Junio 2010 Las Vegas

The winner of the Elvis Guitar Giveaway!
David McKnight
So, Elvis has left the building and made his way to Colorado where he’s joined the family of guitars that I call my own. Cisco Live was a fantastic experience this year, capped off by the excitement of adding a beautiful new guitar to my collection. I can’t say enough thanks to Eman and CCIE Flyer for a such great experience. I look forward to seeing everybody next year!

Layer 8
Managing Time With A Roadmap
The solution to this dilemma of "too many things attracting my attention" is the study roadmap. When working on CCIE certification the first time around, I created a calendar with technical milestones I needed to reach in my preparations.

The Art of Troubleshooting
Dan Shechter Gelles

" Why troubleshooting?" you may ask.
  • Troubleshooting is the highest form of networking skill.
  • Inside-out knowledge of the technology is a prerequisite.
  • You must be able to "crawl under the skin" of IOS™, and fully comprehend it's strengths and weaknesses.
Can you solve Ticket #14?

Inside Your HR Folder
Jay Brennan
Whether you're the interviewee or the interviewer, you're going to be selling. When you're looking to hire someone, you have to sell them on the job, the company and coming to work with you. When you're looking to be hired, you have to convince them that you're the best possible choice out of a potential sea of candidates. In both cases, the better sales pitch you make, the more likely you'll close the deal.

5 Resume Mistakes That Will Destroy Your Chances of Getting a Job – Part1
In my last post I covered the importance of finding a new job in order to get a salary increase. If you agree with that statement (or even if you don’t) and are ready to make a move, then its time to start updating your resume. So let’s go to the file cabinet, pull out that wrinkled up, dusty, cobweb-covered resume, and get it ready for prime time.
