WELCOME TO THE JUNE 2010 ISSUE OF THE CCIE FLYER!
This month Eman has asked me (Jeremy Filliben) to greet his readers. I’d like to think he asked because of my pleasing personality or fabulous reputation within the industry, but I suspect it is because I am a fellow Delawarean (yes, that’s what us residents of Delaware call ourselves). You see, Delaware is a very small state, and the few of us that live here and work in this industry really need to stick together. As I alluded to in my article, there was a time not too long ago when all of Delaware’s CCIEs could fit in a VW bug, without having to resort to clown tricks. Whatever the true reason for the invitation, I’m honored to have been asked.
JOBS:
THE ULTIMATE CONSULTANCY
Top Gun CCIEs
The Top Gun Program was Cisco’s first effort to identify the best in-class network engineers who had mastered the technology’s application and stabilization. Early heroes in this effort are still found today making the world a better place for CCIEs and web 2.0 explorers. The CCIE program has come a long way since those early days back in the 1990s. The CCIE program has singlehandedly brought the world some of the best and brightest of the networking industry. Today there are still fewer than 21,000 CCIEs in the world but demand for their services has never been greater.
TOPGUN CCIEs
Top Gun CCIEs is an alliance of the industry’s best network engineers who have been interviewed and vetted by Top Gun’s technical management. Jerzy Sliwinski, Narbik Kocharians and Emmanuel Conde Top Gun’s management have utilized these CCIEs on projects in the past, work with or have done rigorous technical screening to ensure these are among the best in the business. Instead of trusting your network to unknown resources we invite you to look at those selected to be represented by Top Gun CCIEs.
To enquire about resources for a project or to join us send an email to eman@ccieflyer.com.
Ok Ok I heard you already, I needed to post more of my jobs so everyone can see them. I started a group on LinkedIn called CCIE Jobs, I created a website called www.cciejobs.com and on Face Book I have created www.cciejobs.com which links to my Twitter account. Whew, I need a break here! With blogs and Tweets and inMails and Emails and the eMagazine what’s a tired CCIE Agent™ supposed to do? My wife hears me whine and she says for me to work more. What? Typical Jamaican woman’s point of view if I ever heard one. She’s one to talk heck she just has to look at my “Honeydew list” to see I’ve been kicking butt.
So yes this is my simple way of inviting you to go look at the postings wherever and get back to me. Your career should be in the hands of a caring professional like me!
CCIE Flyer Training Deals, CCIE Boot Camps for 2010!
I am supporting the cause for lower cost CCIE Boot Camps again in 2010 with reoccurring venues in India and Nigeria featuring R&S, Security, SP and Voice curriculums. There are several companies that have approached me and asked for my help in advertising and supporting these venues. We are looking at the very successful offerings from Narbik and his company Micronics as the foundation for these venues along with Faisal Khan’s Voice Boot Camp for the CCIE Voice offering.
CCIE Boot Camps in Wilmington Delaware
Wilmington, Delaware a place CCIE Boot Camps seem to ignore. Yet here along Interstate 95 between Washington, DC and NYC is a place I call home. The home of tax free shopping and the city where many financial institutions are located Wilmington. Amtrak serves this city nicely with regular service hourly from destinations like Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston, NYC, Washington DC, the Carolinas and Virginias. The Philadelphia International Airport is 20 minutes away and the rail line runs right through it as well. If that’s not enough to entice folks who want to be CCIEs then maybe when priced at $2000.00 (R&S) as well as premier residences for $70 a night will. Here in Wilmington we will be hosting the first US CCIE Expo
CCIE Boot Camps in Dhaka Bangladesh
Along the banks of the Buriganga River Dhaka is a bustling hive of technology and business in Bangladesh. Described as a MegaCity it is one of the major cities of South Asia. Dhaka is the location of the CCIE Flyer’s first Asian CCIE Expo. On October 25th – 29th 2010 the Fantastic Four of CCIE training will arrive in Bangladesh brining three simultaneous CCIE boot camp tracks for the first Asian CCIE Expo. For more information...
Seating is limited and are offered on a first come first serve basis. The best prices are for the earliest registrations, so don't delay. To learn more about these bootcamps....

Simply send an email to promotions@ccieflyer.com and we can get you into these bootcamps at a big discount.
Cisco Live - Viva Las Vegas!
On Wednesday June 30, 2010 the Elvis Presley commemorative Epiphone J-200 guitar will be given away at the MicroTech booth #2234. The great folks at MicroTech have invited Eman to join them at Cisco Live on the Expo floor to award the Elvis Presley guitar to one lucky CCIE. The guitar is featured in this album cover for Viva Las Vegas. This is going to be a great souvenir for one lucky CCIE. To hear the guitar click on:
Cisco CCIE – Still the Holy Grail of Certifications?
The message I am getting from the market and the population count of CCIEs is that there are still not enough to satisfy demand. Emerging markets suffer the most especially given the amount of importance hiring them receives and yes their CCIE count remains low. Why?
Cloud Computing the latest Industry Trend
Trends are a constant as the IT industry evolves. I just skipped over a few trends for CCIEs with the employment market shifting constantly still one trend is making more work in the Defense/Government sectors here in the USA, another is the rush for stimulus dollars, and still another the creation of roles that allow CCIEs to make a significant impact on the trends being shaped in general. My favorite industry trend, one I have been keeping an eye on is Cloud Computing.
The CCIE Flyer Interview with Greg Ferro CCIE #6920
While many CCIEs have the chance in the typical work environment to mentor, it becomes more difficult when you are an independent consultant. Greg setup a website in early 2008 and began blogging and posting as a way to share some experiences and promote discussion in the networking community. Combined with the recently started Packet Pushers PodCast, I have been especially impressed by what he was doing. I am pleased to have a chance to interview Greg for the CCIE Flyer. I hope you will learn about him as I do in this interview.

CCIEs and Social Skills
Fast-forward a year or so. I was now CCIE certified and working for a consulting company. My new job put me in contact with my other networking professionals. I quickly learned that not all CCIEs carried themselves with the same professionalism as Marty & Doug.

Layer8: Why Not Recertify With A Written Exam From Another Track?
The question has been posed as to why I’m going after the R&S written to recertify, as opposed to the written from another CCIE track. Intellectually, I’m interested in the other tracks.

Formula to passing a CCIE is Boxing
What is the formula to successfully passing a CCIE lab exam and is there such a thing? I personally think almost everything, if done meticulously, could be calculated. I would like to illustrate how easy the formula to pass the CCIE could be and at the same time how much work is involved to get there. I would like to explain using a boxing analogy.

The Good Consultant will see you now.
This month’s topic is one that's rather overlooked in Consultancy: Active Listening. We're not just talking about hearing what someone (we'll call them The Customer) is saying, but much more than that. We're not just talking about Listening and responding with the odd umm and ahh and nodding, but again more still. Active Listening is a skill that has to be practiced and learnt and I'd argue that Active Listening is one of the hardest skills to learn and certainly one of that hardest to master.

3 Reasons Why Getting Your CCIE Probably Won’t Get You a Raise at Your Current Job
Your boss enters the room with a somber look on his face and sighs as he sits down. He slides over the piece of paper with your current and future salary on it. You anxiously scan the page, and notice that the numbers in the “this year” column and “last year” column are exactly the same. No raise for the third year in a row!
