We delayed the release of the CCIE Flyer this month so we could capture a bit of history in the making. I was really excited this month to be in Africa once again. I will be following up my trip to Cape Town this past week with a trip in May to Nigeria. Since the last issue of the CCIE Flyer I was asked to be involved in the staffing for more really significant work. After being instrumental in pulling in some great CCIEs to help with Gorgon Stare and Einstein3 I was asked to help staff two more historically significant projects. We also had a bit of news from Cisco about OEQs and the CCIE Flyer is now working with several other organizations to present low cost CCIE Boot Camps. I am gushing here!

Cheerio CCIE Chaps

Yup the folks in Jolly Old England have asked for my help in rolling out fiber to over 80,000 homes along with building and staffing Contact Centers. I thought calling for help on my iPhone was a challenge! Every time I go to England I have to ask people to repeat themselves because I cannot understand a thing they are saying. I guess we are two countries divided by a common language. My team is on the hunt for the best and brightest UK network engineers to shore up this team. With the follow on work this is sure to attract, this project is a pretty good candidate as a role with job security.

Afghanistan Wide Area Network

I know Afghanistan might sound daunting to a few of you but hey it’s a country with a real historic need. Create the infrastructure the country needs to emerge from the 20th century. Some forward thinking Network Engineers will have a chance to make a difference in an area that really needs it. This is truly history in the making and some strong experience in working with diverse technologies and many different people is required.

OEQs (Open Ended Questions) or more properly known as the Core Knowledge Section of the CCIE Lab

After speaking with Rick Smith at Learning at Cisco I was just bursting to tell someone, anyone about this but mums the word when sworn to the sacred oath I have taken! Here is what Cisco posted at https://learningnetwork.cisco.com.

Cisco 360 Learning Program Core Knowledge Waiver
(Created on: Mar 2, 2010 8:44 PM by Ann Marcus: Community Mgr. - Last Modified: Mar 16, 2010 10:26 AM by Ann Marcus: Community Mgr. )

Beginning April 1, 2010, Cisco will allow Cisco 360 Learning Program students who attend a Cisco CCIE® Routing and Switching or CCIE Voice workshop to request a waiver and skip the Core Knowledge Section of the CCIE lab exam. All waiver requests must be approved by the workshop instructor. No end date for the Core Knowledge Waiver has been announced, but Cisco will provide at least 60 days’ notice before discontinuing the waiver.

During a Cisco 360 Learning Program workshop, students complete a series of performance assessments that demonstrate their understanding of the CCIE material and serve the same purpose as the Core Knowledge section of the exam. Therefore, Cisco 360 Learning Program students who use the waiver will not be required to type out answers to the Core Knowledge questions and will be allowed to move immediately to the next section of the lab exam.

To qualify for the waiver, workshop students should contact their instructor 45 days in advance of their scheduled lab exam and provide the following information:

More information is available at Core Knowledge Waiver Questions and Answers.

WHAT? Say that again!

Oh, that’s what I thought you said. Man this is gonna be rough sailing for Learning at Cisco, I can tell. There have been more blogs on this one than the wife killing CCIE last year. My magic ball is humming with predictions and my favorite is that this could sound the death knell to the OEQs. Just go out and Google this and you will get heat radiating from your computer screen. Really I was roasting marsh mellows in front of mine!!!
