Welcome to the CCIE Flyer for March 2010
We delayed the release of the CCIE Flyer this month so we could capture a bit of history in the making. I was really excited this month to be in Africa once again. I will be following up my trip to Cape Town this past week with a trip in May to Nigeria. Since the last issue of the CCIE Flyer I was asked to be involved in the staffing for more really significant work. After being instrumental in pulling in some great CCIEs to help with Gorgon Stare and Einstein3 I was asked to help staff two more historically significant projects. We also had a bit of news from Cisco about OEQs and the CCIE Flyer is now working with several other organizations to resent low cost CCIE Boot Camps. I am gushing here! Take me to this story...

Open Letter to Network World’s John Dix
I have become vulnerable in a space on the ether where many people with their own agendas and designs will say and do as they will. Network World Magazine has seen fit to attack my character, my initiatives and my reputation in articles in their Cisco Subnet an area managed by you Mr. John Dix and one of your co-workers Mr. Jeff Caruso. Since you have seen fit to attack me and my work I would like to know why. Take me to this story...
My Trip to Cape Town
There have been many trips on my unbelievable journey as the CCIE Agent™ but few have been as much fun as Cape Town. Sure I was on the Nile River with my hippie friend from Libya and yes there were the Egyptian CCIEs who made me feel so at home in Cairo and then the great reception I received from the Network Academy students in both places as well as Johannesburg and Athens, but for sheer fun it was Cape Town hands down. I managed to see a lot of the city and the evening mixer was a real hoot. But let me start at the beginning, this time. Take me to this story...

CCIE Twins
I have known twins in my life and the one thing I have always struggled with is how to tell them apart. These twins have figured it out, just look at their CCIE numbers! (Yup two different numbers 21032 and 23074) This helps me just fine since the numbers don’t lie. Issam and Maher were geeks in utero, obviously judging by the fact that they hold fifteen IT certifications between them. Barely old enough to shave the pair are an anomaly. Take me to this story...

Defining a Quality of Service Policy
Let’s get this out of the way in the beginning. Quality of Service is my favorite part of network design. The fact that we now have enough power within our network devices to inspect packets and make on-the-fly DSCP value changes is amazing. It doesn’t seem that long since we had to optimize our ACLs to keep the router CPU under 99%. But remember: With power comes responsibility. Take me to this story...
In their own words...
Jackie Wilson
Often I’ve wondered why I haven’t had many female classmates and colleagues. Over time, I’ve concluded that IT must not be seen as a glamorous career or that technology somehow intimidates most girls. The truth is, I’m really not sure why girls seem to pass up such a rewarding and challenging career, but if it is due to stereotypes or misconceptions, I would like to do my part to change things. Take me to this story...
Leigh Harrison
I have been involved with training and coaching team members for the last 10 years in both technical and non-technical aspects of being a Cisco Consultant. I have leant many things over the years and I have found that there is no real outlet for helping advise on the “soft skills” that are needed by The Good Consultant. So I decided to step up to the plate to offer my thoughts. Take me to this story...
