January 2010 CCIE Flyer Cover Welcome to the January 2010 Edition of the CCIE Flyer!
This is the third year of the CCIE Flyer and it has tremendous growth from a few hits to literally thousands of unique sessions each month. The number is at or above 40,000 unique visitors as of the third year with an estimated 15,000+ being CCIE's.
So far the CCIE Flyer has taken up a number of valiant causes and has even reportedly saved lives in addition to helping CCIE's and Cisco Certified Professionals make a better life or at least a better C.V. Take me to this article...

Hot Jobs:

Cisco Voice engineer - Dallas, Texas - Eligible to work in the USA only please

In this position you will play a leadership role in a fast moving entrepreneurial company and enjoy the "best of both worlds:" the tight-knit camaraderie of a smaller organization (with a big company benefits package) and the technical impact of a strong Cisco Premier Certified Partner. In addition to coordinating and acting as a resource to an Engineering team of six, you'll be involved in projects from cradle to grave -- and we won't pigeonhole you; you'll touch on all disciplines: UC, Network, Wireless, and Security.
To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have a current, valid CCIE in Voice and solid engineering experience with current Cisco technologies, particularly voice and security.
Cisco voice/UC engineering (Call Manager, Unity, ICC Express, Cisco Presence)

Senior Network Engineer - Pleasanton, California - US eligible only please
Opportunity Snapshot
This position offers you the opportunity not only to work with the latest Cisco and Microsoft technologies, but also to take on intriguing and challenging projects -- we frequently take complex projects on referral from Cisco and other partners. You will become part of a small, entrepreneurial company that is growing strong; in the past few months we've added seven new team members, and this position also will help us meet the booming demand for our services. The team you'll join is highly competent, fanatically committed to customer satisfaction.
To be a good fit for this opportunity ideally you will have a CCIE or be working towards one (preferably in Voice), significant experience engineering with Cisco networking products and strong knowledge of routing & switching and networking.
We're looking for a professional with technical expertise that is a cut above the rest as well as the ability to explain technical issues clearly to diverse audiences; consulting experience is strongly preferred. You also will need a passion for learning new skills, technologies and processes.
ExtraTeam is a thirteen-year veteran of the technology industry. We provide communications, networking and data center services and solutions across multiple vertical markets. As our clients' extra team we are there when they need us, earning repeat business through expertise, innovation and a track record of outstanding customer satisfaction. These are just a few reasons we earned the 2008 Cisco award for Unified Communications Partner of the year. What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or other relevant field; we also will consider non-degreed candidates with significant and relevant experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including proficiency in business and technical writing as well as presentations.
Ideal candidates will have experience with many of the following technologies:
  • Cisco UC Manager and all of its supporting products (Unity, UCCX, MeetingPlace and so on).
    Comment:
  • Security Products such as ASA, IPS, 802.1x, ACS, FWSM.
  • Datacenter Core products such as Nexus, 4900, 6500, 7600, ACE/CSM.
  • Enterprise wireless -- WLC, WiSM, Wireless Voice.
  • Juniper networking products.
Microsoft certifications are a plus.

CCIE Network Engineer - Houston, Texas - USA eligible only please
Opportunity Snapshot
Whether you have solid network engineering experience or are a recent grad just launching your career, this position offers you a unique environment in which to showcase your expertise. You will enjoy the best of both worlds: the entrepreneurial energy of a smaller company in which your ideas will be welcome, and the stability and status normally associated with much larger companies: we work with seven of the ten largest companies in Texas, and we recently were named 2009 Cisco Commercial Partner of the Year for the 11-state "South Area." In addition, you'll work with the most current technologies; for example, we are one of 25 partners Cisco selected to pilot its leading edge TelePresence solutions.

Geeks go to War
Chris Watson In recent weeks I have been asked for Network Engineers to provide their skills in theatre in Iraq and Afghanistan. I was so surprised that anyone would even ask me to send CCIEs into harm’s way! I mean people are getting shot at over in those places. As an agent for so many CCIEs and Network Engineers I have learned that it is important to give them first hand details of what they are stepping into so they know what to expect. Jared Scrivener
Opportunities of a lifetime don’t come every day of the week. Well mine did. I had started my sabbatical to complete the CCIE Voice track when I received an invitation to work with Narbik Kocharians – the foremost CCIE level ‘master instructor’ in the world. Suffice to say I jumped at the opportunity to work with ‘the best’ and ‘most respected’ provider in our field. Take me to this article...

A Pakastani CCIE
It was the last 15 minutes of 8 hours lab, before the proctor announced that all of the work should be saved. I was almost frozen, my back was aching, eyes were closing but my mind was restless. I was still thinking if something is left or needs to be rechecked. Finally the time was over, and I went out of the lab, stressed and tired, with all sorts of confusing questions in my mind, whether I have made any mistake. Take me to this article...

Pakistani CCIEs inside story (Uncovered)
Pakistani IT market was used to be an emerging market from 2001 to 2007, but the situation changed due to the instability in politics and law enforcement issues in Pakistan and also in Middle East due to the recession where most of the Pakistani and Indian CCIEs used to work and were in demand for long time. After 2007 the Pakistani economy started slowing down and hence progress in IT sector also slowed down due many reasons including energy crisis which increases the overall energy bill of IT industry, government priorities and foreign investment which decrease deplorably due to the safety issues in Pakistan. HOW FAR WILL YOUR RESUME GET YOU?
When I look at resumes these days I am really surprised at what I don’t find. (wow I managed to say “I” three times in the first sentence this is gonna be good) Really, I don’t make up this stuff it actually makes me angry that anyone dispensing resume advice still paints all job seekers with the same brush. Yup there is somebody out there telling people to keep the resume short and down to two pages or less. Take me to this article...

Head Banger CCIE
"The growth in the numbers of CCIEs show how much the preparation material has improved. I personally agree with the change to add the OEQ. As someone that has gone through and passed that version, I have to say that the OEQs are not something to worry about if you know your material. As for the version 4 lab, the preparation material needs time to improve before we will see the numbers of CCIEs start increasing again. The pursuit of the CCIE is not just about getting a number, it’s about the pursuit of knowledge." Take me to this article...

FREE CCIEs! SAVE YOUR MONEY!
I am angry about a few things I have learned over the years and recently in the job placement market. It seems that some of the desperate who need a job are easy prey for a few unscrupulous companies out there that are taking their money. To start with if you are being victimized or targeted by anyone trying to take your money before you get a job let us all know who they are here in the CCIE Flyer. Take me to this article...

CCIEs MAKING HISTORY
If Einstein had taken an IQ test it has been estimated his IQ would have been about 160 and that was in 1920. So according to the Flynn Effect the score of the average child in diapers with an average IQ today is actually as smart as Einstein!
That is why the next generation of Network Engineers is smarter than the first was right out of the starting gate! So it comes to pass that more cool work is being created for these young minds to be challenged by. Take me to this article...

Einstein (US-CERT program) Einstein is the product of U.S. congressional and presidential actions of the early 2000s including the E-Government Act of 2002 which sought to improve U.S. government services on the Internet. Originating at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and subsequently moved to the General Services Administration, the Federal Computer Incident Response Capability (FedCIRC) was one of four watch centers that were protecting federal information technology when the act designated it the primary incident response center. With FedCirc at its core, US-CERT formed in 2003 as a partnership between the newly created DHS and the CERT Coordination Center which is at Carnegie Mellon University and funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. US-CERT delivered Einstein to meet statutory and administrative requirements that DHS help protect federal computer networks and the delivery of essential government services. Network Engineers for Peace
There are real places and real things happening outside the virtual space we are so comfortable in. There are remote clinics treating the displaced, treating the sick and treating the victims of HIV/AIDS as well as schools treating the minds of children where books are hard to find. You can make a difference and peace can be the outcome. I ask you to be a network engineer for peace in 2010 as I extend free support to some of these very needy institutions and people making a difference without enough funding. Won’t you join us here in the CCIE Flyer to donate your time to reach across borders to help keep them on-line? Take me to this article...

For my first article, I think I will start off by giving you a bit of background on myself, my experiences and my goals. I'm 27 and currently living in Pittsburg Kansas, USA. I was born and raised in Barrie Ontario Canada, and somehow I ended up down here (but am anxious to get back). I recently passed the CCIE Routing & Switching lab, and I'm now known as Chris Jones, CCIE# 25655. Take me to this article...
