CCIE Agent at GITEX
I have said it many times; I travel like a child with eyes wide open. I don?t like to let my Texas roots or my American up brining blur my sight or dampen my experiences when I travel. I feel that by leaving what I am normally accustomed to at the airport I can appreciate what I encounter more. So my observations are not done with research or other input they just are what they are. Take me to this story...

A CCIE?s Rescue Story
Often I hear about CCIEs who are trying to make a difference. It?s true that most CCIEs are in a higher income bracket after earning their certification, so some immerse themselves in what appears to be pure self indulgence. Some reach out to their peers mentoring the next generation of Network engineers, some get active sharing their experience on-line in various forums spending literally hours a day matching wits with their virtual peers. Then others get involved in their community but this just covers options the CCIEs have looked for. What about the opportunities to help others that seek you out? Take me to this story...

Dubai and the Dancers
My first impression of Dubai was courtesy of Cisco Systems? HR Talent forum back in the early part of this year. I stayed in a hotel near the foot of the manmade island called Palm Jumeira and I was in awe of the sight of so many skyscrapers racing to the clouds at once. There was so much construction going on that the giants they are building seemed to be challenging the very clouds themselves. This was the back stop for our meetings that week. It was a spectacular sight and the hotels we stayed in are some of the best in the region. It is not really possible when traveling for events like this to feel the true culture surrounding the economic boom. It is true that growth of this kind is reminiscent of other historical booms in various places at different times on our planet. My first impression of Dubai was of a landscape where anything was possible, a vast expanse of opulence where anything can be purchased. I returned to Dubai two weeks ago courtesy of the good folks at VoiceBootcamp, Inc., Faisal Khan?s company from Toronto. I was fortunate to travel this time with someone very familiar with parts of the city seldom seen by tourists. So I had the chance to touch and feel an entirely different Dubai. 3Com vs. Cisco
Network Engineer Thoughts from Around the World
We will see large mergers in IT and other industries from time to time but this is the first I have witnessed that challenged an interest of mine. Cisco is watching the events unfold as HP acquires 3Com in an obvious challenge to the networking giant. Take me to this story...

Are workers more productive, or just screwed?
There?s been a lot of speculation over the weekend on why the heck the economy seems to be turning around but the job market is still lagging.
The consensus among most economists and Wall Streeters is American companies have just gotten smarter and American workers are just more productive. Through outsourcing and better management, they just don?t need as many workers. That?s the theory at least. Take me to this story...

Hitchhiker?s guide to CCIE jobs in Poland
If you read other magazines then CCIE Flyer and WIRED, than you have probably read about the current worldwide economic crisis. May be you've also heard, that Poland, a middle sized European country has coped well with the global crisis (at least so far). Or you've met a beautiful polish girl on the web, with face that launched thousand ships. Anyway, you just want to try your luck working as a CCIE in Poland. In this article I would like to tell you, what you should expect. Take me to this story...

I'm sure there are many of you out there in similar situations as me. I work for a small company with 3 locations in the eastern US. We have a generally uncomplicated network...the kind where once everything is in place, you really don't touch it for the most part. Each site has a firewall, a router, and a few switches. So how does an aspiring CCIE (aspiring CCNP for now - 2 down, 2 to go) get good hands on practice in solving problems and connecting all of the pieces of the puzzle? Take me to this story...

CCIE SP ? MPLS VPN Carrier Supporting Carrier

The carrier supporting carrier feature enables one MPLS VPN-based service provider to allow other service providers (Tier2) to use its backbone network for connectivity of their POPs. It is also called a carrier-of-carriers VPN. It is a two-tiered relationship between a provider carrier and a customer carrier. In a carrier-of-carriers VPN, the provider carrier provides a VPN backbone network for the customer carrier. The customer carrier, in turn, provides layer 3 VPN or Internet services to its end customers. Take me to this story...

Identifying Counterfeit Cisco Equipment
Waking Sleeping Dogs: Information Security Ethics, a paper I wrote for my SANS Technical Institute masters degree, has generated a lot of great comments and questions.
Many folks are asking how to identify counterfeit Cisco gear that may be their environment. Continue reading for how we did it. Take me to this story...

Recruiting 101
A Recruiting Glossary:

PROTECT YOUR CCIE INVESTMENT DON?T PUT YOUR NUMBER AT RISK!

Here is the language we have in Ts&Cs

The lending or transfer of a CCIE credential by its owner to a Channel partner who is not the owner's full-time employer or the equivalent of full time employed, e.g., 40 hours/wk., is a violation of program policy and subject to sanctions. This is also true for partner companies who misuse CCIE credentials, with or without CCIE candidate consent, for unfair benefit. Candidates who violate policy as stated in the Cisco Career Certification and Confidentiality Agreement: Section [4] Examinations: [4.1] http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/le11/learning_certification_agreements.html, may receive a permanent ban on future Cisco examinations and the cancellation of previously earned Cisco certifications. Channel Partners who violate these guidelines in their partner agreements will be immediately deauthorized.

To report any suspicious activity, please submit a detailed summary to security-tipline@external.cisco.com.
