Welcome to the CCIE Flyer for April
I LOVE MY JOB!
Really I have so much fun it might become illegal to do what I do. So don’t tell anybody I said so!
The CCIE Flyer has been enjoying a growing reader base as well as contributor pool. There are several great CCIEs and Future CCIEs who seem to enjoy this monthly exercise. For their support I am eternally grateful. Last month I began working closely with Narbik and made myself available to his students for career advice and this is working nicely. Helping fill seats in his CCIE classes has actually made the CCIE Flyer a revenue generating effort. Pretty soon I am going to have to pay myself for doing this. Take me to this article....
Ingram Micro and Eman’s Network Job Fair
I usually tried to avoid job fairs when I was looking for work in the past. It always seemed that they were so broadly advertised so the hosting company could make a profit selling tables that the candidates were always left out in the cold. The mix of IT jobs and non-IT jobs was not well thought out and the lines for any good companies too long.
Thanks to CCIEs and network engineers like you my specialized focus has been accepted as the de facto source for CCIEs and Cisco Network engineers. This recognition by one of my partners Ingram Micro one of the largest resellers of Cisco products has created an opportunity for us to show off your value!
In Mississauga, Ontario on April 28th Eman’s network is featured in an invitation only career event. Each invitee will have 4 interviews during this event with attending Ingram Micro clients. They are searching for various skills and certifications so we will arrange the schedule around the client’s hiring needs.
To be included in this event please send your resume via email to Eman @ eman@ccieflyer.com copy M as well at emily@ccieflyer.com
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
My Trip to Egypt
When you think of Egypt you probably think of the Pyramids and the Sphinx.
But I am not like a lot of people!
When I think of Egypt I think of CCIEs. Really! I don’t lie about CCIEs, maybe the fish I have caught or the girls I have kissed but not CCIEs.
I was excited about going to Egypt but then I realized I would have no time for site seeing. I was scheduled to arrive in Cairo on March 17th and then spend the 18th at the Cisco HR Talent Forum there. I was scheduled to speak to Channel Partners about CCIEs Care and Feeding and Retention and then with the Network Academy student to discuss their career decision to become network engineers and the impact on the economy on their career decision. Narbik V 2.0
Occasionally while we are working on our daily grind we make friends with the people we deal with professionally. I have developed a strong respect for Narbik and I think we will become better friends as we work together to spread the gospel on CCIEs as a career track. I have discovered that Narbik travels to many more places than I do and my intention is to try and catch up to him. As far as individuals go who offer training internationally in support of preparing CCIEs not just for the lab but for life, he leads the pack. Take me to this article....

Karam Hanna Then and Now
In the CCIE Flyer, articles in IT World, and Eman’s Blog, the story of Karam has been told in parts. What is not known is the complete journey of Karam from refugee camp to a new home in Southern California. Karam’s journey in several ways was also Eman’s journey. With the help of Emily Miller, Deb Conde tells this story. Take me to this article....
Cyber Wars
When I started talking to Darby about the Cyber Wars I was not expecting it to become such an epic struggle. Good guys, Bad guys and double agents all mixed in with Cyber Storm Troopers and Clones doing battle across the ether even the Nuclear Strike option was used. The details are enough to keep a guy like me up for a week assembling and explaining the drama. Take me to this article....
Darby Weaver
As a CCIE wan-to- be Darby Weaver is a busy one.
So recently when I learned that Darby was the object of some on-line shenanigans I was infuriated. The internet is a place devoid of safeguards or any form of quality controls. One new blog is created every thirty seconds and they run the gamut of truth and lies. So I wanted to let you know about this. It has come to my attention that there is a person out there who is/has used Darby’s name and a photo of him to represent themselves as Darby. Yup, real lowlife stuff, huh?! Just like identity theft of your credit, identity theft in the virtual space can cause considerable harm to your reputation. Take me to this article....
CareerDiva:
Who cares if there are no women in technology?
It’s tough to convince hundreds of high school girls that they should consider a career in technology. Even though they spend their days sending text messages and friending friends on Facebook, they care little about the intricate technological system that makes it all work. One Laptop Per Child
One Laptop per Child is a great thing to support. Because it gives kids that are less fortunate a chance to enjoy technology. It could help them with their learning experience and stay in touch with other people. I found this article on the internet and maybe some of the children that received these laptops have looked at this article too. Please read this and try to support One Laptop per Child (Bass Conde CCIE Flyer reporter) Take me to this article....

Eman, the mysterious late night caller was.....
Ok so I get this random call the other night from Eman asking (begging) me to write an article for the CCIEFLYER. He is carrying on and on about how important it would be to him and how much he respects my opinion. I finally caved in and agreed after he told me that the CCIEFLYER would cease to exist if I didn’t… Ok, ok, I may be bending the truth just a little bit. Take me to this article....

In this article I am going to cover a nice tool for enhancing IS-IS convergence, I am really amazed by the ideas that the guys out there pop up. Inventing such wonderful tools requires intellectual open minds. Take me to this article....

Statistical Oversubscription
In the world of network capacity planning statistical considerations play a key role. It
is intuitively clear that the “worst case” provisioning results in wasted network capacity
and unnecessary expenses. It is also intuitively clear that in an oversubscribed network
there is a risk of not being able to provide adequate services to users if the
oversubscription ratio is too aggressive. Take me to this article....

CCIE and the iPhone 3G
It’s not that often that I would combine one of the world’s hardest exams to pass with one of the most desirable Apple products. That being said, the iPhone 3G is in a class of its own compared to other phones on the market. Granted, the hardware specs are at most ‘normal’ with 3G support, HSDPA, A-GPS and not to mention the miniscule 2.0MP camera at its arsenal. However the iPhone 3G has an ace up its sleeves, applications. Yes folks … there are thousands and thousands of applications with new ones created everyday for the iPhone 3G. From productivity applications to games, there is at least one application which is suitable for anyone having the iPhone 3G. You are more than welcome to bash me on that remark. And yes, it’s not an April Fool joke :-). Take me to this article....

CCIE test and numbering
A lot of people have misconceptions about the CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) program and its numbering. I was consulting at Cisco in 1993 when I first heard about the program and inquired about participating. Brad Wright was the program manager and he knew what I had been doing with Cisco (CLI development, consulting, and training) and told me what I needed to do. Take me to this article....

Reflections: from inside the training room
It is a very interesting experience when you are having audience with no background, and you are here to give them a training course about the networking basics. You are expected to touch all ideas and concepts of networking, and never go deep in any of the topics, just to make sure you are keeping consistency when tackling every subject in the course.

What is the hardest CCIE Lab?
I am not going to say what is the hardest CCIE Lab. Coworkers, students at the training center, and even friends in the bar are constantly asking about it. And the truth is there is no hardest one. They are all damn hard. Take me to this article....

ARE YOU READY TO GO TO WORK?
I have been tied to the global economy as a recruiter for a couple of years now. Recruiting CCIEs as a specialty requires that I remain open to international currencies, cultures, customs and fluctuations in the economies of many countries. The customs and cultures are my favorite part of this effort I have lead to support CCIEs and their careers in a market fraught with legends and lies; sorting it out is a part of what I do daily. When I am asked to comment on what I know about CCIE salaries, job markets and areas of technical competencies I like to start with asking the individual what are they doing now. “Are you ready to go to work?” You see your investment in yourself should not change drastically in the rush to enter the areas of the highest demand. A History of How Geeks Changed the World
Geeks have often been the point of consternation and the butt of jokes for centuries. But there were times when the word geek was not part of our vocabulary. A very long time ago geeks were not called geeks. (Really I don’t lie about geeks, maybe the fish I have caught or girls I have kissed, but not geeks.) Think about the first geek for a second. The Cavegeek! Take me to this article....
